Background - The uniqueness of Indonesia's local livestock genetic resources (LLGR) must be maintained to
satisfy national meat consumption.
Purpose - To determine the correlation between the libido and the quality of fresh semen in Pasundan bulls.
methodology - A total of six selected bulls, four bulls with spermatozoa motility ?70% (group A) and two bulls with
sperm motility <70% (group B) based on secondary data fresh semen quality in 2020-2024 from Regional Artificial Insemination center (RAIC) in Ciamis, West Java, aged 5-10 years. The semen was collected using an artificial vagina in the morning. We analyzed the libido parameter, volume, sperm concentration, motility, and morphology
of bull Pasundan. Finally, correlation between libido and fresh semen quality were analyzed using Pearson’s
correlation analysis.
Findings - The quality of fresh semen from six Pasundan bulls showed an average volume of 5.94 mL, pH 6.4,
milky white color, and medium consistency. Sperm motility averaged 64.7%, with a concentration of 974.92×10? mL-1 and 6.2% abnormalities. No significant differences in semen volume or libido were found between bull group A and group B (P>0.05). However, group A males had higher motility (75.75%) and concentration (1408.08±241.73 mL-1) compared to group B (42.5% and 608.67 ± 157.68 mL-1), and lower morphological abnormalities (5.79±1.28% vs 7.21±0.7%).
Originality - The originality of this study is the newest information about the correlation between the libido and the quality of fresh semen in Pasundan bulls.
