A Systematic Review of Critical Reading Skills in Indonesia: The Impact of Collaborative and Project-Based Learning Methods
Keywords:
Collaborative Learning, Critical Reading Skills, Indonesian Education, Project-Based Learning (PjBL), Systematic Literature ReviewAbstract
Background - This study delves into the teaching of critical reading in Indonesian education, with a specific focus on methods that enhance these crucial skills across various educational levels
Purpose - The study's significance lies in its exploration of how these methods are applied in scientific journals accredited by SINTA, and its identification of factors that influence students' critical reading skills.
methodology - The research method involved a systematic literature review using the PRISMA framework,
analyzing 42 relevant articles from 2018-2024.
Findings - The findings revealed that students' critical reading is fostered through Project-based learning (PjBL), RADEC, ASCO, discourse analysis, group discussions, and techniques such as SQ3R, skimming, scanning, and
controversial texts. Notably, PjBL, RADEC, and ASCO emerged as commonly used and effective methods for
improving critical reading skills, with PjBL particularly effective at the university level. Furthermore, the study's findings underscore the need for further research. Techniques such as SQ3R, skimming, and scanning, commonly
used in elementary education, have proven effective in fostering critical reading skills. The second collaborative learning model, which integrates character values, multimodal approaches, and digital literacy tools, has also been successful. The study also underscores the importance of a student-centered curriculum, as demonstrated by the Merdeka Curriculum, and the use of authentic assessments to evaluate critical reading skills.
Originality - The study's call for further research on the long-term effects of learning models and methods on learners' critical reading at all levels reinforces the need for continued investigation in this field.
