Discovery Learning Learning Model to Improve Learning Quality
Keywords:
discovery learning, science, ecosystem, light, learningAbstract
Background - Optimal learning can be maximized with a suitable learning model. Lately, teachers have difficulty
adopting learning model steps. Therefore, mastery of varied learning models is very necessary.
Purpose - The study aims to describe the results of observations on the application of the discovery learning
model on the material of ecosystem balance and light in grade 5 of elementary school.
methodology - Data collection through observations carried out during learning and supported by interviewing
teachers.
Findings - The learning model commonly used by two teachers is Discovery Learning. The results of the interview
as a homeroom teacher often use this learning model when practicing science subjects are carried out. Based on
the results of observations and interviews, it can be concluded that the discovery learning learning model is
effective in increasing student activity in learning and understanding the concept of ecosystem balance. However,
there needs to be an improvement in time allocation so that all activities can be carried out optimally.
Originality - The Light material is done by practicing, students are asked to bring cardboard, scissors, and
flashlights. The way to realize it is a cardboard is cut into 4 parts into a square shape. After that, the cardboard
that has been cut is given a hole in the middle. The cardboard that has been given a hole is lined up and placed
parallel to the hole. After that, a flashlight is given and directed at the hole so that the light can be seen traveling straight.
