Abstract

Background - The writing of the Qur'an with the Uthmani script has a significant influence on the understanding
and meaning of the Qur'anic verses. The Uthmani script, used since the time of Caliph Uthman bin Affan, has
specific rules and conventions that distinguish it from other writing systems.
Purpose - This study aims to examine how these rules in the Uthmani script affect the interpretation and meaning
of the Qur'anic verses
methodology - The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach, analyzing the differences
between the Uthmani script and other scripts, particularly in terms of the omission or addition of letters,
vocalization, and punctuation
Findings - The study finds that these differences can significantly affect the meaning of verses, both in
grammatical aspects and in the context of tafsir (interpretation). A proper understanding of these rules is crucial to
maintaining the accuracy of Qur'anic interpretation and preventing distortion of meaning that may lead to
misunderstandings. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the
importance of the Uthmani script in Qur'anic studies, as well as explore how this writing system plays a crucial role
in preserving the original meaning of the revelation.
Originality - None has conducted this research, making this study highly original
